After the introduction of the Alfetta sedan a new Coupe was shortly later launched. The body design was by Giorgetto Giugiaro and was 11cm shorter than the sedan. The 1800cc version was the first engine . In 1976 the 1600cc and the 2000cc were presented to the public. The transaxle design, in combination with a Watt's parallelogram linkage, inboard rear brakes and a well-located de Dion rear suspension, resulted in excellent traction and handling. In 1980 a redesigned version with plastic bumpers and new rear lights came on the market.
