With the introduction of the 2000GT veloce, together with the 2000 Berlina and the 2000 Spider veloce, in Gardone 1971 Alfa Romeo had a small compact sports coupe with very good driving specifications, that with the effective brakes and the limited slip differential had only very few competitors in this class.
