The new open Spider was launched at the Geneve Auto show 1966. This production type had many design features of older prototype versions, which were shown by Pinifarina in the years before. The design was by Battista Pininfarina, who founded the company back in 1930. There was no name found for the new car, so the name " Duetto " was chosen after a competition.. The car became famous after Dustin Hoffmann drove an early version in the film " The graduate". Of the 1600 version 6325 cars were built.
